As we gradually come to terms with COVID-19 and the impact it has had on all of us, thoughts now turn to a safe return to work post lockdown.
Irrespective of the actual timing of a return, if your workplace has been closed due to COVID-19, it is likely that returning to “normal” operations will not be an overnight matter.
We are likely to see a graduated return process with social distancing measures being applied in all workplaces in the short term.
The following guide has been prepared by Synergy Risk Management Ltd as an aid to our clients who are preparing to return to work and addresses the many considerations associated with that process.
The hierarchy of controls begins with minimising the number of people in the workplace through practical controls such as working from home, where feasible and minimising visitors.
We must then consider control measures that are likely to eliminate or greatly reduce the chance of the virus spreading between people.
Finally and very importantly, we must have arrangements in place for dealing with any cases of COVID-19 that arise within the workplace.
